Records Fall At Season Opening Smith Invitational

Northampton, Mass. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Track team saw three new school records set on Saturday at the Smith College Invitational. Newcomer Dabein Walker set the school record in the High Jump and qualifying for the ECAC Championship Meet in March in the first meet of the season.
 
Walker placed first in the High Jump with a height of 1.95 meters, which is also a new school record.  He is the first Knight to qualify for the ECAC indoor meet this season which will be held on March 3 & 4 at the Armory in NYC.  In addition, Walker was the top NCAA athlete in the triple jump with a distance of 12.18 meters and was also second overall in the long jump at 6.54 meters.
 
“Dabien had a great start to his college career today, qualifying for the ECAC meet is not an easy thing to do” said Head Coach Fred Callo.
 
Sean Farrell had a great day, improving his Pole Vault record with a mark of 3.10 meters to place first overall in the event. Kameron Grimm was second in the Pole Valut with a height of 2.45 meters.
 
Isaiah Bevans-Didymus placed first in the 600-meter dash with a new school record time of 1:27.89, topping Scott Colello’s time from January of 2014.  “Isaiah did a nice job of working off of the Trinity athlete in his race and then passing him with 100 meters to go in the race to sling shot himself to first place. I am so happy for Isaiah on his new school record, he certainly deserves it.” said Callo
 
Nick Murphy was sixth overall in the 100M dash with a time of 7.51 seconds and he was also sixth overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.16 seconds.  
 
The men’s 4 x 200 team of Patrick Dempsey, Murphy, Walker and Greg Adams placed second overall with a time of 1:37.74.
 
In the field events, Peter Zecchin was fifth overall for the Knights in the men’s weight throw with a toss of 10.35 meters.
