Red Foxes Close Non-Conference Play With Win

AMHERST, MA – After a dominant third quarter that saw Marist go on a 19-0 run and surpass its most points ever in a quarter, the Red Foxes cruised to an 88-60 win over UMass Thursday afternoon at the Mullins Center. With the win, the Red Foxes close out non-conference action at 4-8 overall while UMass moves to 8-5 on the season.

A disjointed first quarter that saw the Red Foxes forced into six turnovers and a five-point, 19-14, deficit was turned around in the second quarter as the Red Foxes survived a back-and-forth period and grabbed a three point lead over UMass at the break.

The Red Foxes came out scorching hot in the second half, turning defense into offense and started on a 7-0 run that would force a Minutewomen timeout less than two minutes into the new half. The Red Foxes would eventually extend their second half run to 19-0 before free throws for UMass at just over the four minute mark of the third would break the ice.

Overall, Marist amassed a 26-0 run that started with 3:17 left in the first half and spanned to 4:15 to go in the third quarter. UMass would outscore the Red Foxes 22-19 in the fourth but the damage was done in the third when Marist blew the game open with a 37-9 period.

The Red Foxes get some time off from games and will hit the court again to kick off Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Thursday, December 28th at Rider. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
