Peekskill NAACP Invites Public to Important Panel

PEEKSKILL – The Peekskill NAACP invites the public to an important panel discussion, “Our Voice Matters: Prosecutorial Misconduct is an Illegal Act – Make it the Law in NY,” on Thursday, January 25th at 7:00 PM in the Peekskill High School Auditorium.

Co-sponsored by the Peekskill NAACP Criminal Justice Committee and the Peekskill High School Black Culture Club, the panel features five distinguished guests who will share their expertise and personal accounts related to this issue:

Dr. Leroy Gadsden,
Professor, Criminal Justice Department, Bronx Community College, and Chairman, NYS NAACP Criminal Justice and Legal Redress;

Kenneth Chamberlain Jr.,
Founder, Coalition for Police Reform;

Dr. Bennett Gershman,
Professor at Pace Law School, and author of Prosecutorial Misconduct;

Jeffrey Deskovic,
Founder, The Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice;

Bill Bastuk,
Founder, It Could Happen To You, and author of current NY state legislation on prosecutorial oversight.

“This event is intended to raise awareness and expand an ever-growing coalition of individuals and organizations to put pressure on the NYS Legislature to act on two pending pieces of legislation that would create a Prosecutorial Conduct Commission, similar to the State’s Judicial Conduct Commission,” says Peekskill NAACP Criminal Justice Committee Chair Samuel North.

This panel discussion will include opportunities for questions on the topic of prosecutorial misconduct from the audience.
