Marist Track Posts Three ECAC Qualifying Times

BOSTON, MA – Highlighted by three ECAC qualifying performances, the Marist women’s track team continued its stellar 2018 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, held Friday and Saturday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.

On Friday night, freshman Gianna Tedeschi and junior Jordan Casey both earned ECAC qualifying marks in the 5,000-meter run. Tedeschi, running in her first-ever 5km on the track, powered her way to a time of 17:21.44, seven seconds faster than the ECAC standard.

Casey also dipped under, running 17:23.24 and running her fastest time in the event by more than 20 seconds. Freshman Hayley Collins nearly got the mark as well, running 17:29.07, a nearly 30-second improvement on her previous best.

On Saturday morning, the distance medley relay team of Maria Smith, Danisha Craig, Shea Bohan and Janelle Solviletti came within two seconds of the school record in the event and easily qualified for the ECAC Championships, placing seventh in 11:56.49, more than 12 seconds faster than the ECAC standard.

This performance came less than 24 hours after Bohan and Solviletti both broke the 5-minute barrier in the mile run for the first time, leading a brigade of eight running Red Foxes who had personal-best times in the event.

The team returns to action with a partial squad of competitors at the Metropolitan Championships, to be held Friday at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
