Concerts Expand on Hudson River Waterfront

For the past 11 years Ferry Godmother Productions has brought some of the best performers in the region to the City of Newburgh waterfront including US Military Jazz Knights, bands from Lincoln Center and Richard Pryor Jr. Thanks to premier sponsor Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield and many others this summer there will be nine free LIVE music performances on the Newburgh waterfront. Returning will be the Newburgh Jazz Series, and Orange County Pop, Rock & Doowop Series, and a new program introduced, “Newburgh Jewish Music Series.” They are currently seeking sponsors for the nine free concerts.

Upcoming is the annual fundraiser, “African American Heritage Music Series”, sharing history of negro spirituals, gospel and slavery freedom songs held in the oldest African American church in the Hudson Valley. With roots in the Underground Railroad, the City Historian will offer moments in the city’s history. African American Heritage Music Trail
Prestigious choir from Harlem travels to the oldest African American church in the Hudson Valley to perform Negro spirituals & gospel music. Also showcasing is jazz band renown for reinterpreting slavery freedom songs. Take a walk through local African American community legacy and music with City of Newburgh Historian. This is a fundraiser to support the free concerts on the Newburgh waterfront.

Newburgh Jazz Series
At the beginning of the 20th century, originating in the African American communities, jazz styles developed and spread influencing many other musical styles. This series consists of various styles of jazz genre.

Orange County Pop, Rock & Doowop Series
Rock and roll dominated popular music in the mid to late 1950s. The 1960s. During this time rhythm and blues and girl groups were popular, funk and soul music increased in popularity. The series includes a variety of music like doowop, pop and classic rock and roll, representing the era.

Newburgh Jewish Music Series
This is the newest series by Ferry Godmother Productions. This series will share a sense of Jewish pride, culture and traditions to a wider multicultural community utilizing the platform of Jewish music. It will unite, inspire, and network the surrounding community through Jewish song and music. Concert will include a variety of styles including Jewish jazz, Broadway musicals and traditional Klezmer.
