POUGHKEEPSIE – Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley (PPMHV) is hosting a “What the Health?!” summer kickoff event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 22 in the backyard of the Family Partnership Center at 29 N. Hamilton St. in Poughkeepsie. High-school aged youth are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Qualified health experts will be on hand to answer teens’ health-related questions. Free and confidential HIV testing will also be available from noon to 2:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the Family Partnership Center.
Free food and refreshments will be offered, along with free Planned Parenthood swag, condoms and sexuality education materials, live music and entertainment, games and activities including an inflatable basketball court, materials from participating community vendors, and more.
As the nation’s largest provider of comprehensive, age-appropriate sexuality education, Planned Parenthood reaches over 1.5 million people every year, more than 75 percent of whom are school-aged young people. In 2017, Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley provided nearly 400 education and outreach sessions at 23 schools throughout Dutchess, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties, reaching more than 8,400 students. Education programming and workshops cover a wide range of subjects that are essential to healthy adolescent development, including healthy relationships, consent, communication and decision making, abstinence, and STD/HIV and pregnancy prevention.
