Howland Library Welcomes New Director

BEACON – The Howland Public Library is pleased to announce the hiring of Kristen Salierno as the new Library Director. On June 12th, the HPL Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Salierno after a three month search.

“I look forward to leading the wonderful staff of Howland Public Library in providing excellent services to the growing, changing, and diverse community of Beacon,” says Kristen who assumed her position as director on July 2nd. Before coming to Howland, Kristen was the Assistant Director of Blodgett Memorial Library in Fishkill where she was known for her positive attitude and enthusiasm. Kristen is excited about finding ways for the library to connect with the community so she can discover “the needs and wants the library can fulfill.”

One community collaboration that Kristen initiated at Blodgett that she is most proud of was the annual library carnival. She was inspired to create this free community event “so that every community member would have the ability to partake in summer fun.” Kristen looks forward to bringing her passion for community involvement to Beacon.

Kristen holds a Master of Science in Library Science from Long Island University and a BA in History from Adelphi University. She is currently enrolled in New York Library Association’s Leadership and Management Academy.

The Library staff is very thankful to Muriel Verdibello, former Director of the Newburgh Public Library, who stepped in as Interim Director and “held down the fort” the past six months.
