More Major Unions Endorse Skoufis in Race

State Assemblyman and State Senate Candidate James Skoufis (D-Woodbury) has been endorsed by CWA District 1, 32BJ SEIU, and 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East in the race for the 39th SD. The endorsements add to a growing coalition of labor groups committed to electing Skoufis in this crucial race.

“This campaign is about creating fairness and greater opportunities for hardworking people throughout Orange, Ulster, and Rockland,” Skoufis said. “I’m proud that my commitment to improving our shared communities and growing our local economy has earned me the support of CWA, 32BJ and 1199SEIU. These are incredibly important unions who have long advocated for working people in a variety of important professions that have an impact on our daily lives. As State Senator, I will continue to fight for them.”

Dennis Trainor, Vice President, CWA District 1, said, “Unions are under unprecedented attack. We have a real opportunity this year to make a decisive change in the New York State Senate by electing James Skoufis who has proven that he will fight for our members, fight for the working people of the Hudson Valley, and fight to make vital improvements for Orange, Rockland and Ulster counties.”

Hector Figueroa, President, 32BJ SEIU, said, “We proudly endorse James Skoufis in the 39th State Senate district. James has been a proven ally to working men and women in the Hudson Valley. He has also been a proven fighter for economic and social justice for all working families.”

“James Skoufis’ work to ensure that Hudson Valley communities have access to quality healthcare, and his commitment to improving education opportunities, from pre-k to college, confirms that he knows the issues that are important to 1199 families. He has listened closely to 1199 members in the area and understands what healthcare workers need in order to provide the best care possible. We look forward to our continued work with James Skoufis to ensure that the voices of healthcare workers and all working families are heard in the New York State Senate,” said Gabby Seay, 1199SEIU Political Director.
