New Solo Art Show in Mindy Ross Gallery

NEWBURGH – Printmaking is Maggie Oakes’ specialty. During her creative process, she uses many techniques and media. “I create intaglio plates using techniques such as: etching, aquatint, mezzotint and electro-etching. I also work with photolithography, silkscreen, relief processes, embossment and Chine-collé.” Her most recent body of prints represents a diversity of her personality, passion and origin. Her work shows various emotions and aspects of her life.

Indeed, Oakes’ works mirror her life in her solo exhibit My Travels – from Europe to the United States by Malgorzata Latos-Oakes. Visit the Mindy Ross Gallery at Kaplan Hall, SUNY Orange, August 22 – October 9, 2018 to view this very personal show that displays the high quality of work created by this talented, mature artist.

Born Malgorzata Latos in Poland, she has traveled extensively in Europe through Poland, Spain, and France, and in the US in North Carolina and Florida, and now lives in Pine Bush, NY.

Shegraduated from Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland with an MFA in Printmaking. Oakes is an adjunct assistant professor at SUNY Orange and anadjunct professor at SUNY New Paltz, serving as an instructional support technician in the printmaking studio. She is a mentor and advocate for students, helping them solve complex studio problems to achieve their fullest potentials.

Her works have been exhibited in many venues in Poland and France, and in the United States in Colorado,South Carolina, Ohio, Connecticut, as well as locally in Middletown and Sugar Loaf. She has been the recipient of several awards.

An afternoon reception including a tour of the gallery with an explanation of her works, processes, and materials will take place starting at 2pm on Monday, September 17. This event as well as the exhibit are free and open to the public.

Gallery hours: Monday – Thursday, 8am to 9pm;Friday 8am to 6pm.

Closed Labor Day and open October 8 from 9am to 4:30pm.

The Mindy Ross Gallery is situated in the eastern section of the first floor of Kaplan Hall which is located at the corner of Grand & First Streets on the Newburgh campus of SUNY Orange.
