MSMC Splits Two Non-Conference Matches

BROOKLYN – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Volleyball team returned to action on Saturday, splitting a pair of non-conference matches at Pratt. The Knights fell in four sets to the host Cannoneers by scores of 25-21, 24-26, 19-25, 21-25 before rebounding for a 25-16, 25-10, 25-18 straight set victory over Rosemont.

Pratt 3 – Mount Saint Mary 1

The Knights got off to a good start against Pratt, putting away nine kills in the opening stanza. The Knights went on to hit .296 in the second frame, but were held to just six winners in the third set and saw the Cannoneers put away 15 kills and hit .289 in the deciding fourth set.

Senior Alex Klein and junior Morgan Burke each put away 11 kills for the Mount, with Kleisin matching her career-high in the category. She added three digs in the contest, while Burke rounded out the match with a pair of service aces and a block.

Junior Madelyn Barberan put away six kills for the Knights and lifted 11 digs, while Klaire Wall recorded 13 digs to go along with a kill.

Danielle Kralik equaled the match-high and set a new career-high with 14 digs for the Knights, while senior Kim Gries rounded out the match with 33 assists and a pair of digs.

Pratt was led by a match-high 14 kills from Shannon Corr who finished off a double-double with 14 digs. Emelen Mikelic recorded five service aces for the Cannoneers and totaled four kills and 10 digs.

Pratt finished the match with a 41-37 advantage in kills and controlled the service game with a 16-7 edge in aces. Total team blocks in the match were even at 1-1.

Mount Saint Mary 3 – Rosemont 0

The Knights closed the day with their third win of the season, hitting .214 as a team and committing just 11 attack errors against the Ravens. The Mount hit an efficient .368 in the middle stanza and saw Rosemont attack at -.107 for the match.

Klesin finished off a strong day for the Knights with seven more kills and hit .278 in the victory. She added a team-high 11 digs and posted a pair of service aces. Burke and Kralik supported the offensive attack with five kills apiece, with Burke hitting .364 to go along with a block and two service aces.

Wall and McKenna Cronin were two of four Knights to record two aces in the win with Cronin adding a kill and Wall lifting five digs. Gries handed out 14 assists in the win and produced a kill for the Mount.

Rosemont was led by five kills each from Holly Brady and Abigail Brooks with Brooks pacing the Ravens with nine digs. Alyssa Springer led the team with 11 assists.

Mount Saint Mary finished off the win with a 26-14 advantage in kills and a 9-4 edge in service aces. Rosemont finished off the match with a 3-1 advantage in total team blocks.

At 3-8 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary continues an extended road swing with a non-conference match at SUNY Delhi on September 19. Match time with the Broncos is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
