Knights Sweep Mount Saint Vincent, Old Westbury; Strano Records 100th Conference Victory

OLD WESTBURY – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Volleyball team scored a pair of 3-0 Skyline Conference wins on Sunday and it the process earned the 100th and 101st conference wins for Head Coach Mike Strano. The Knights toppled the College of Mount Saint Vincent by scores of 25-17, 27-25, 25-19 and Old Westbury by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 27-25.

The Knights limited Mount Saint Vincent to an .078 attack percentage and saw the Dolphins make 12 service errors in the win. The Mount hit .117 as a team and won the second set despite hitting -.051. The Dolphins finished with a two kill advantage in the match, but allowed 14 Mount Saint Mary service aces.
 
Klesin finished with a match-high 10 kills for the Knights with Morgan Burke hitting .417 with six winners. Junior Madelyn Barberan finished off the win with five kills for the Knights and added a match-high 16 digs.
 
Senior Kim Gries handed out 23 assists in the win and completed a double-double with 12 digs. Sophomore Renee Hydo controlled the service game for the Knights with five aces in the contest, adding five digs in the win.
 
Mount Saint Vincent was led by nine aces and 10 digs from Samantha Schroeder with Tara Maloney totaling eight winners. Madison Gale handed out 21 assists for the Dolphins, with Alexandra Rio leading the team with 11 digs.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the match with a 28-26 edge in kills, but the Knights dominated the service game with a 14-6 advantage in aces. Totaled team blocks in the match went to the Dolphins by a slim 4-3 margin.

The Knights finished off Sunday’s sweep by hitting .276 as a team with 38 kills against the Panthers. The Mount hit .412 in the opening frame against Old Westbury and finished with at least nine kills in each of the three stanzas.
 
Klesin closed out a strong day with 10 more kills and hit an efficient .526 with Burke putting away 12 winners while hitting an even .400. Burke finished off a strong all-around match for the Mount with three digs and four total blocks.
 
Barberan closed a strong day with six more kills and seven digs, while Nicole Spinelli put away four winners for the Knights.
 
Gries handed out a match-high 32 assists for Mount Saint Mary and lifted seven digs with Alyssa Barbara leading the team with eight digs. Barbara and Barberan led the Knights in the win with a pair of aces apiece.
 
Old Westbury was led by eight kills from Danielle Corsi with Kyraleigh Zinnel leading the team with 14 assists and the match with 17 digs.
 
Mount Saint Mary rounded out the match with a 38-31 advantage in kills and a 7-6 edge in aces. Mount Saint Mary controlled the net with a 5-0 advantage in total team blocks.
 
Sunday’s sweep moves Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark overall at 9-9 and to 2-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a trip to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday. First serve with the Mariners is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
