ARLINGTON, VA – Junior Sophie Nick was named the tournament MVP and sophomore Ryan DeOrio snagged all-tournament team honors in Vassar’s 56-52 victory over Marymount on Saturday evening. Three Brewers scored in double-digits as Vassar moves to 2-1 overall.
The Brewers dominated in the first quarter, limiting the Marymount offense to four total points while scoring 16 of their own. DeOrio would score 10 of her 13 points in the first half, while Nick grabbed 10 rebounds in the half.
Marymount turned things around in the second quarter, outscoring Vassar 17-6, but the Brewers held on for the 22-21 halftime lead. Maeve Sussman was strong on the glass, racking up five rebounds in the half.
After a slow first half, Jackie Cenan found her rhythm in the second, scoring eight points while making three assists with one steal. Cenan would finish the game with 12 points.
Marymount would attempt a late comeback, scoring 20 in the final quarter. Katie McShea and Gabriella Haddadd had eight points each in the second half, but the Brewers proved to be too much.
Nick would finish the game with 11 points, 15 rebounds and four assists, while Sussman added nine points and six rebounds.
