Green Light NY Movement Arrives in Albany

ALBANY – They came from Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Middletown, Newburgh, Warwick and points in between to travel by bus to Albany last Tuesday to join the Green Light NY movement.

That effort is attempting to convince the state legislature to approve a measure that would allow for driver’s licenses for undocumented residents.

Jonathan Bix, executive director of Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson was among the organizers in Albany.

“There are already licenses in 12 states around the country including states that are not particularly thought of as progressive like Utah so we think it should be a bipartisan bill since it benefits everybody,” he said.

Right now, Bix said most of the support among New York lawmakers comes from Democrats.
