O.C. Health Dept. Recognized For Achievements

GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and Commissioner of Health Dr. Irina Gelman are pleased to recognize some recent noteworthy accomplishments of the Health Department during National Public Health Week (NPHW), which runs from April 1-7th.
NPHW recognizes the power of prevention, advocating for healthy and fair policies, sharing strategies for successful partnerships and championing the role of a strong public health system.

“I’m proud of the great work the Health Department continues to perform throughout Orange County,” Neuhaus said. “Each day, Dr. Gelman’s team works hard to protect our residents and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to public health. These recognitions are indicative of their diligence and dedication to our community and everyone they serve.”

Lissette McNulty and Debora Fagan and the Health Department’s Immunization Program was one of seven programs in New York State that were recognized with a “Protecting the Public Award” by the State Department of Health Bureau of Immunizations in March. The County’s Health Department earned the award for its substantial community and healthcare provider outreach and education to control a large measles outbreak.

In addition, members of the Health Department’s Early Intervention and Medical Examiner Divisions were recently inducted into the 2019 New York Public Health Works! Honor Roll. The recognition is given to outstanding healthcare workers that administer essential services to keep residents healthy.

The County’s Health Department has also been selected to participate in the Strong Systems, Stronger Communities Technical Assistance (SSSC) TA Project. SSSC is a new initiative by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). The initiative supports local health departments (LHDs) in completing public health performance improvement projects through a tailored in-person and virtual training and TA program.

“We are excited to be recognized as a Health Department that is taking proactive public health initiatives that benefit our residents,” Gelman said. “This is just another example of how the Orange County Health Department has worked diligently for the greater good of our residents.”
