Mount Saint Mary Hosts ‘Take Back the Night’ Vigil

NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary College raised awareness of violence and honored those who have been impacted by it with a “Take Back the Night” march and candlelight vigil on Thursday, April 4 and a “Take Back the Day” 5K color run on Sunday, April 7.

“Take Back the Night” is a national program to raise awareness of, and help end, sexual assault. The Mount’s march around campus and candlelight vigil drew about 100 participants, including students, faculty, and staff.

Then on Sunday morning, April 7, the Mount community gathered for “Take Back the Day: Knights Run Against Sexual Violence,” a 5K color run around campus.

Both events were held as part of national Sexual Assault Awareness Month, with additional programs planned in the coming weeks. These programs will help students continue to make healthy, proactive choices and to reinforce the campus’s commitment against violence.
