MSMC Competes At Bronco Classic

DELHI – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Track and Field team had a strong day on Saturday at the Bronco Classic hosted by SUNY Delhi. Sophomore Samantha Papdopoulos had a big day for the Knights, winning a pair of hurdle events.

Papdopoulos took the top spot in both the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.35 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.5. She finished off a big day with a second place showing in the women’s High Jump with a mark of 1.28 meters.

Michelle Gildea, Alexis Papdopoulos and Zoe Jabs also had big days on the track for the Mount. Gildea was second in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles, A. Papadopoulos was the top finisher for the Knights in the 100 and 200-meter dash and also took fifth in the triple jump. Jabs ran her best 3000-meter steeplechase time of the season, placing second overall at 13:26, with teammate Meaghan Rohan posting her best time 14:29 for fourth place overall.

Alexandra Bergen ran a personal best for the second week in a row in the 1,500-meter with a time of 5:37.34 and the 4 x 100-meter relay team ran a season best time of 55.42 seconds.

In field events, Alexandra Salamone was third in the discus at 33.2 meters, with teammate Gabriella Antich posting a fifth place finish. Salamone closed out a strong day with a fourth place finish in the Hammer, with Valerie Lupi placing eighth. Lupi also picked up a fourth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 25.6 meters.

“Great day by Sam today in her events, she really stepped up for us and had a big day in the hurdles. Michelle, Tori, Allie and Alexis had solid days as well in all the events they participated in,” said Head Coach Fred Callo.

Following and off week for Easter, the Knights return to action on April 28 at the Skyline Conference Championship Meet.
