Alex Salamone Breaks Hammer Throw Record

WEST POINT – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Track and Field team continued the 2019 Outdoor season on Thursday at the Army West Point Twilight Meet. Sophomore Alexandra Salamone posted a pair of top-10 finishes for the Knights and set a new school record in the Hammer Throw.

Salamone broke her school record in the hammer with a new distance of 39.31 meters for 12th overall and added top-10 finishes on the night in both the Shot Put and Discus. She took eighth in the Shot Put with a heave of 10.67 meters and placed ninth for the Mount in the Discus with a mark of 32.25 meters.

Gabriella Antich finished off the night with a 10th place showing in the Discus with a mark of 28.85 meters, with Valerie Lupi qualifying for the ECAC Championship in the Javelin with a toss of 26.77 meters, good for seventh place overall.

Samantha Papadopoulos ran a great race and posted a personal best time to finish second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:15.34. Alexandra Bergen finished third in the event with Meaghan Rohan giving the Knights three runners within the top-five with a fourth place showing.

Alexis Papadopoulos made it back to finals in the 100-meter dash, finishing fourth overall, with Antich, Victoria Laiso and Jenna Zeller getting through to the finals for the Mount. A. Papadopoulos also turned in strong performance in the 200-meter dash, placing fifth in 29.46 seconds.

“Great job tonight by our women’s team hanging with some very impressive DI competition. I am so proud of Allie who just keeps improving on her school records in the throwing events,” stated Head Coach Fred Callo.

The Mount will be back in action on May 15 and 16 when it travels to Southern Connecticut for the 2019 ECAC Championship Meet.
