Marist Football Falls at San Diego, 31-7

SAN DIEGO, CA – The Marist football team dropped a Pioneer Football League contest at San Diego by a score of 31-7 on Saturday afternoon at Torero Stadium.

The first score of the game was a 40-yard touchdown pass from San Diego’s Reid Sinnett to Alex Spadone 2:46 into the contest.

In the second quarter, the Toreros’ Michael Armstead returned a punt 45 yards to the Marist 49. On the next play, Sinnett connected with Spadone on a 49-yard touchdown as San Diego took a 14-0 lead.

Marist answered with a 15-play, 75-yard drive in 7:38. It culminated in a one-yard rushing touchdown by Hunter Cobb.

With 56 seconds remaining in the first half, Sinnett’s third touchdown pass of the day – a seven-yard toss to Jojo Binda Jr. – advanced the Toreros’ lead to 21-7. That was the halftime score.

After a scoreless third quarter, Brandon Eickert’s 28-yard field goal gave San Diego a 24-7 advantage with 10:09 to play.

Four straight Marist drives in the second half ended with interceptions. The last was returned 46 yards for a touchdown by David Tolbert for the game’s final touchdown.
