POUGHKEEPSIE – Sophomore midfielder Abby Murphy scored off a penalty kick rebound with 1:19 left in regulation, then headed home the game-winner in the 108th minute to carry Marist to a wild 2-1, double-overtime triumph over Manhattan on Saturday evening at Tenney Stadium.

The Red Foxes win on Senior Day to clinch a spot in the 2019 MAAC Tournament, improving to 5-3-1 in conference play and 8-8-1 overall. The Jaspers are eliminated from postseason contention, falling to 2-5-2 in the MAAC and 3-11-2 in 2019.

Manhattan took a 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute. Alexa Chapman booted the ball home after it filtered through the penalty box.

In the 89th minute, Marist earned its second penalty kick. Manhattan goalkeeper Kim Mains made her second PK save, but the ball rolled off her gloves. Murphy raced to the ball and buried it in the lower-left corner.

Sophomore forward Kaylin Sperley flicked a ball to sophomore defender Riley Abate in the right corner. Abate crossed it to Murphy, who headed it in with 2:48 remaining in the game.

Mains denied Sperley on a penalty kick attempt less than four minutes out of the break.

Sophomore forward Victoria Colatosti recorded three close chances from the top of the 18-yard box in the first overtime frame, only to have each attempt saved.

The Red Foxes close out the regular season at Canisius on Wednesday, October 30 at 4 p.m.
