POUGHKEEPSIE – Captain Kevin Faber, a 28-year veteran of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, has been named the department’s chief.
Town Supervisor Jay Baisley said that naming Faber as top cop was an easy decision. “Kevin is extremely bright and over his career he has implemented several programs that have dramatically improved the department.” Baisley also said Farber will be “a progressive chief that will benefit the department and the entire town.”
Captain Michael O’Dowd said Faber brought his background in engineering and mathematics to the department as a new hire in 1991. Faber rose through the ranks of the department since joining. Starting as a patrol officer, he became a traffic enforcement officer, followed by patrol sergeant, traffic sergeant, patrol lieutenant, and most recently captain of the Support Services Bureau.
Chief Faber holds many state and federal certifications including those in Firearms, Defensive Tactics, General Topics Instructor, and Accident Reconstructionist. The new chief attended the FBI National Academy as part of Session 270 and has also served the country as a member of the United States Naval Reserve.
