Republicans Select Farley to Run For 18th District

POUGHKEEPSIE – Republican Chele Farley of Tuxedo was unanimously selected Thursday evening by Republican committee members in the four counties represented by the 18th Congressional District.

The post is currently held by Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring.

The district encompasses all of Orange and Putnam counties and portions of Dutchess and Westchester.

The joint nominating convention was held in Poughkeepsie with Dutchess GOP Chairman Michael McCormack saying Farley has an excellent shot at winning the seat. “We feel that Chele Farley is the best candidate by far for this congressional district and actually the best person for this congressional district once she wins,” he said.

Maloney has yet to announce his re-election bid. He recaptured the 18th District post after unsuccessfully seeking the Democratic nomination for state attorney general in the fall of 2018.

Previously Farley ran unsuccessfully against Democratic US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
