Army Women’s Basketball Falls to Lehigh

WEST POINT – The Army West Point women’s basketball fell to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks by a score of 94-65 on Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena.

Lindsey Scamman led the way for Army with a double-double, as she scored 13 points and grabbed 11 boards. Hope Brown also dropped in 13 points, while Kate Murray added 12 and Alisa Fallon chipped in 10.

Lehigh’s leading scorer was Mary Clougherty, who finished with 24 points on 9-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 from beyond-the-arc. Camryn Buhr (16 points) and Emma Grothaus (14) also put up double-digit scoring performances.

Lehigh jumped out to an early 11-6 lead, but Army scored the next six points on a pair of Morgann Yancey free throws and a pair of Brown free throws, followed by a Brown layup to give the Black Knights a 12-11 lead with 1:27 to go in the first quarter.

With the contest knotted up at 16 with nine minutes to go in the first half, Lehigh put together a 9-0 run to give the Mountain Hawks a 25-16 advantage. Murray hit a three-pointer to end the run, but Lehigh then scored the next six to make it 31-19.

The Black Knights would get within nine in the first half, but Lehigh carried a 40-28 lead heading into the midway point.

In the second half, the Mountain Hawks got off to a fast start, kicking things off with a 9-2 run. Army scored the next five on a Yancey three-pointer and two Murray free throws to make it 49-35.

Lehigh closed out the third quarter on a 19-13 run to make it a 68-48 Mountain Hawk lead.

Army was outscored 26-17 in the fourth quarter.

Army returns to action Saturday when it hosts American at 1 p.m.
