Kellyann Royce-Giron New Poughkeepsie H.S. Principal

POUGHKEEPSIE – Kellyann Royce-Giron, a 1990 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, is coming back home. The Poughkeepsie City School Board has hired her, starting February 18, as the principal of the high school.

Royce-Giran, who has 20 years of experience in the education field, worked as a counselor with the New York City Department of Education, later becoming a special education teacher and moving in September 2016, becoming an assistant principal.

Currently, she is the principal at New Venture STEAM academy in the Bronx, a position she has held since September 2018.

“I’m blessed and humbled to leave a 20-year career in the Bronx to come home,” she said.
Her first order of business will be meeting staff and students and analyzing data. “Once in the building, it’s about building relationships and changing the culture,” she said. “It’s about providing the safest space possible for students to learn and grow and leave Poughkeepsie High School with a plan.”
