ELLENVILLE – Students from Ellenville Elementary School (EES) and Ellenville Middle School (EMS) were recently awarded certificates and prizes for their participation in the Ellenville NAACP’s annual Black History Month contest.
This year’s creative entries on the topic of Black History included essays, poems, and even a detailed diorama. The first place winner from EMS, Braelyn Peavey, received a $50 prize and the first place winner from EES, Naveah Ramos, received a $25 prize. The rest of the students won honorable mentions worth $10 each. They were: Brandon Anolin, Caleb Gimenez, Gabriella Jones, and Jeniah Cannonier from EES; and Ryan Oquendo, Sabihah Rahman, Ellie Anderson, Cincere Jackson, Lamiah Hull, Hailey Bressard, James Valenti, and Iris Dumornay from EMS.
Ellenville NAACP President Maude Bruce praised the students who participated in the contest, saying, “We’re happy that you contributed your talents in learning about black history.”
