The Newburgh City Police Chief is Suspended

NEWBURGH – Police Chief Douglas Solomon has been relieved of his duties as head of the Newburgh City Police Department and Lt. Kevin Lahar has been named officer in charge.
City Manager Joseph Donat confirmed Solomon’s suspension and spoke highly of Lahar saying he is “very dedicated and has excellent leadership abilities.”

Sources said the decision to relieve Solomon was based on his performance as chief and had nothing to do with the conduct of the men and women in the department.

Solomon has been chief in Newburgh for two years after having served in the top spot in the Beacon City Police Department.

Prior to that he served as chief in the Village of Monticello for many years.
