Newburgh Free Library Delayed Open Update

NEWBURGH – As you may have noted, there is construction underway at the Newburgh Free Library/BOE building. This is part of an Energy Improvement project designed to reduce energy use. The project is being paid for by the savings from the improvements. No taxpayer funds are being used as they replace the windows, doors, lighting and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).

Due to the COVID-19 shutdown, materials for the project were not available. Now that manufacturing has opened again, the project is going full blast. The images show the East (River) and West (Grand Street) sides of the building.

In order to provide for community and staff safety with this new accelerated catch-up work schedule, they had to make the very hard decision for the Library to remain closed for the time being. As work progresses, they will revisit opportunities to serve people.

“We do miss you and you have told us the same and we appreciate you. We want you to be able to enjoy an improved and energy efficient library of the future. Please bear with us as we build you a better library,” said Chuck Thomas, Director of the Newburgh Free Library.

The community is always welcome to visit the Newburgh Free Library through its various digital platforms: Newburgh Free Library website.
