CSAE Student-Athletes of the Month Named

POUGHKEEPSIE – Sara Leavens and Jordan Jones were named Student-Athletes of the Month for October by Marist’s Center for Student-Athlete Enhancement (CSAE).

Leavens is a junior from Avon, Connecticut who is part of the Red Foxes’ cross country and track & field teams. She is a Biomedical Sciences major who was named to the Dean’s List in both semesters of the 2019-20 school year. Leavens is a Student-Athlete Peer Mentor as well as a member of Marist’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Ladies Empowering Athletic Programs (LEAP), and Campus Ministry. In the summer of 2019, Leavens interned at the American School for the Deaf. She is conversationally proficient in American Sign Language and Spanish. Leavens began her collegiate career at Hofstra, where she spent the 2018-19 school year.

A member of the men’s basketball program, Jones is Director of Engagement for Marist’s Black Student-Athlete Alliance, and a member of Marist’s SAAC and Black Student Union. He attended the Black Student-Athlete Summit in Austin, Texas in 2019. Jones is a Business Administration major who has previously been honored as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student-Athlete of the Week. He also been named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, MAAC Academic Honor Roll, and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court. He has volunteered at local soup kitchens and has assisted in expanded reading at a communal bookstore. Jones is a fifth-year senior from Baltimore who is in his third year at Marist after spending his first two collegiate seasons at Charleston Southern.

In September, volleyball’s Chidera Udeh and football’s Arthur Pinckney were named CSAE Student-Athletes of the Month.
