NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh is excited to offer its residents two socially-distanced Halloween events this October. In an effort to provide the community with a safe and healthy Halloween celebration, the City of Newburgh will host a drive-in movie night featuring a showing of Disney’s “Coco” coupled with a drive-through Trick or Treat event at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center.
On October 29, the City will host its final Drive-In Movie of the season featuring “Coco” at the Ann Street Parking lot. Set during the Day of the Dead, this drive-in event celebrates Newburgh’s rich Latin American community and culture. Upon arriving, attendees will be directed to parking or seating spaces and will receive instructions on audio features as well as rules for social distancing. Face masks must be worn by everyone in attendance when not seated and walking through the lot. Cars should enter the parking lot from Ann Street, and walk-ins should enter from Washington Street. The movie will begin at 7:00 p.m.
On Halloween, October 31, the City is partnering with the Newburgh Armory Unity Center for a contact-less drive-through “Spooktacular Treating”. Pre-made bags of candy and treats will be handed out from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., at the Larkin Center, 321 S. William Street, to children 16 years of age and under. The event will accommodate those who wish to drive or walk to get their Halloween treats.
Participants should beware of spooky surprises that may lurk (safely and distanced) from the shadows. Everyone is encouraged to dress up and decorate their vehicle. Social distancing protocols will be in effect and enforced during the event. Protective masks are required upon entry, exit, and while moving about the distribution area.

Everyone is reminded that a costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask.
Additionally, costume masks should not be worn over a protective mask because it can be dangerous. Instead, consider using a Halloween-themed cloth mask made of two or more layers of breathable fabric that covers the mouth and nose and doesn’t leave gaps around the face.
