Sixth, And Final, Living History Tour is Added

KINGSTON – This month Theatre on the Road and the Old Dutch Church in Kingston have been presenting their sixth annual “living history” tours on Saturday nights in the cemetery of the church. Guests have been taking a trip across three centuries and meeting seven characters that made Kingston the place to be.

All scheduled tours are completely sold out and guests who have participated on October3, 10 and 17have enjoyed an experience that is entertaining, educational and safe. All COVID regulations have been followed.

A sixth tour has been added for Sunday, November 1st at 5 pm.

On the tour, guests meet Calvert Vaux, an architect who designed New York’s Central Park and many of the Hudson Valley’s finest residences. Visitors will also witness the banter between Sadie and Elsie Reher, two sisters whose family owned a bakery on the Rondout.

Jenny Hasbrouck, an enslaved person who took her own freedom, will make an appearance, along with Benjamin and Becky Low a couple that took in a British spy just before the burning of Kingston. Emily Crane Chadbourne, an art collector and philanthropist, will regale us with her story and Rachel Hasbrouck, a young woman who survived a Tory attack while escaping the burning of Kingston, will finish the tour.

The final tour on November 1st will be limited to 60 people with no more than 10 people at each gravesite; masking and social distancing will be enforced. A virtual version of the tour will be available on www.livinghistoryny.com beginning November 1.

All character monologues for Theatre on the Road’s living history tours were researched and written by local writer, teacher, actor and director Jessica Boyd.
