NEWBURGH – Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) recently presented Blanca and Christian Sotelo with the Senate’s Commendation Award which recognizes exceptional people who have made a lasting contribution to their community.
Blanca and Christian opened Blanca’s Tailoring a few short months before the coronavirus pandemic struck New York. Although neither could have imagined that such a crisis was coming, they did not hesitate to help their neighbors when it hit. In the first month of the pandemic, the pair made and distributed over 4,000 masks for free.
“I am heartened to see the kind of dedication to our neighbors demonstrated by Blanca and Christian. Without hesitation they jumped to meet the community’s need for protection,” said Senator Skoufis. “I was honored to present Blanca and Christian with this award, which is a small representation of our Senate District’s gratitude.”
