Poughkeepsie Mayor Rolison Reflects on MLK Holiday Observance

POUGHKEEPSIE – “Today, our nation remembers a leader and preacher who worked tirelessly for peace and justice. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s voice, words, vision and deeds galvanized support for change. Employing nonviolence tactics, he spoke the unvarnished truth and insisted with a singular clarity that all people are created equal.

“King’s death at the hand of an assassin in 1968 didn’t impede that movement. The fight for equality, in fact, grew and has continued to grow. Today, we remember the reverend — his eloquent words, his wisdom and his profound understanding of what it means to be free and why our insistence on civil rights must never be abated or abandoned.”
