County Goes to Senior Residents to Vaccinate

GOSHEN – Orange County Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman and Director of Nursing Heather Boss administered doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to senior residents on Friday, March 19th at the Joseph A. Fogarty, High Pointe and Hudson Pointe Apartments in the City of Newburgh.

Gelman was accompanied by Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus at the Hudson Pointe apartments and Sheriff Carl E. DuBois at the Fogarty complex.

“Obtaining the COVID-19 vaccine for residents throughout Orange County has been a priority for my administration and we have made significant progress over the last month,” Neuhaus said. “Providing access to vaccine protects all of us and helps make our community safe and healthy. The residents at the apartment complexes were appreciative of the County’s efforts to bring the vaccination to their door and I enjoyed spending some time with them.”

The County on Friday also administered approximately 1,175 second dose Pfizer vaccines to residents in collaboration with Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) at SUNY Orange’s Newburgh campus. This week, the County administered more than 5,500 first and second doses, hosting three clinics at Hatfield Lane in Goshen earlier in the week. Neuhaus said that the County Health Department has inoculated more than 30,000 residents since the New York State COVID-19 vaccination rollout began in January.

The County has prioritized residents over the age of 65, but also vaccinated a wide variety of those eligible, including teachers, first responders, healthcare professionals and men and women with pre-existing health conditions this week.

“As the State increases its supply of vaccines, more mobile options will be incorporated into our distribution plan,” Dr. Gelman said. “We look forward to holding additional clinics in Newburgh and other communities in Orange County. The Health Department’s goal remains to curb the spread of the disease while increasing access to vaccination throughout our County, to ensure health equity for all residents.”
