Track And Field Has Strong Day at USMMA

KINGS POINT – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Track and Field Team opened the 2021 season in strong fashion, winning four events, at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Samantha Papadopoulos led the way for the Mount with a pair of victories.

Samantha Papadopoulos recorded wins for the Knights in both the 100 and 400-meter hurdles and added a second place finish in the Long Jump. Her 100-meter hurdle time came in 19.40 seconds before posting a mark of 1:20.79 in the 400-meter event. Papadopoulos made a leap of 4.56 meters to take runner-up in the Long Jump.

Alexandra Steinberg took first place in the 400-meters on Saturday with a time of 1:16.21, while Alyssa Milburn won the 800-meters with a time of 3:02.88.

Other strong performances on the track were turned in by Alexandra Bergen who took the runner-up spot in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Alexis Papadopoulos who finished third in both the 100 and 200-meters. Priya Patel (Ozone Park, N.Y.) had strong runs for the Mount in the 800-meters, taking third place.

Next up for the Knights is a trip to SUNY Delhi on April 17.
