Serious Change Needed For Things to Get Better

Back in the fifties when I was in “show business” my friend Sam Cooke wrote a song “A Change Is Gonna Come!” Wow! Here we are now in 2021, whereby 63 years have went by, and that change, as it pertains to “racism” and “prejudice” still has not “Seriously” come. Wow! How much longer is it going to be before we here in “America” see that change? “Racism” is still “alive” in “my country ‘tis of thee!” Why? Why? Why? America, most definitely is not a “Sweet Land Of Liberty” for a large proportion of its citizens, especially us “African Americans!” The major question re: this is “why not?” “Why not?” “Why not?”

I note recently in the news there has been a discussion going on about the “Three Fifths Compromise!” Why now, at this particular point and time, is this discussion popping up? To those whom may not know what this “Three Fifths Compromise” was all about, it was a compromise reached among state delegates during 1787 which gave the Southern states more power. It most definitely did not help end slavery! “Racism” is the “Major” reason why this madness keeps on and on and on. Many times it makes me wanna “Holla” and throw up both my hands. Many people wonder why there is so much violence throughout the “Black” community, to that I say “Violence” begets “Violence!”

There has been nothing but “Violence” in “Black” lives since our forefathers were snatched from Africa and brought to “my country ‘tis of thee,” wretched land of no Liberty, of thee I blame for what’s been going on towards my forefather’s and is still going on towards us.
How dare you wonder why we as a people have so much anger going on inside of us! How dare you wonder why there is so much “Violence” going on throughout our communities when you, throughout the years, have been so “Violent” towards us. “Violence” begets “Violence!” Why is this so hard for you to understand? Or is your misunderstanding due to the fact that you do not look upon us as being human? Wow! You hope that we will take our last dying breath without uttering a single word about how wretched that you have been towards us. Wow! How long are we supposed to remain silent while you continuously keep your feet upon our necks? How long? How long? It’s so sad that some of my people are contented and satisfied with the way that things were and still are because they have been allowed to rise throughout this chaos. But they fail to realize that anything could happen to them or theirs while driving or walking while being “Black!”

How much longer are we going to have to endure this madness? Now we hear you talking about the “Three Fifths Compromise” which many do not even realize what that’s all about? To those that do not realize what the “Three Fifths Compromise” was all about, that “Compromise” gave the Southern Slave States more power. It was a compromise reached among the delegates and all of the states, except New Hampshire and Rhode Island, agreed to the counting of three out of five slaves towards each state’s population. This “Compromise” stated that a slave would be counted as three-fifths of a white person for the purpose of taxation and representation. Wow! Why is this being discussed by some of our government officials now? Black folks you had better give some real “Serious” attention to that! Wow! Wake up!

We had better be aware of what’s “Really” going on before our very eyes. I am very concerned about what type of summer we are going to have. I believe that the stage is being set for a very long “Hot” summer to be in our midst. Truthfully, I find this to be quite amazing in a country that confesses to be largely a “Christian” nation. Wow! Christians were not “Requested,” they were “Commanded” to love one another. Where is the “Love?”
Anyway, these are just some words that I have written to cause you, my readers, to give some “Real” Serious thoughts to what’s “Really” going on in our country. Truthfully, I do believe that the stage is being set for a “Big” tragedy to occur throughout this land. How sad, but this is the way that it looks. “Lord Have Mercy!”

Let me end this with “Mother, Mother, Mother, there’s far too many of you still crying. Brother, brother, brother, there’s far too many of you still dying.” We’ve got to find a way to change the direction in which our nation is heading, for if not, a great explosion is going to be in our midst.

Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! If not, what a great tragedy will be upon us and that change, which my friend Sam so many years wrote and sang about will “Never” come. “Lord Have Mercy!” Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!
