Blue Knights Blanked By Buffalo State, 2-0

FREDONIA – The Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Soccer Team closed out play in the 2021 Blue Devil Classic on Saturday afternoon with 2-0 loss to Buffalo State. Junior goalkeeper Zach Decker finished the contest with a career-high 13 saves.

Saturday’s loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-3 overall on the season, while the win improves the Bengals to 3-1.

First Half
Buffalo State held a 14-2 advantage in shots and took two of the three corner kicks in the period.

Decker finished the opening period with six saves.

Theo Pencic had the only goal of the half, scoring the eventual game winner for Buffalo State at the 6:45 mark of the match.

Max Antisell and Connor Doyle had the only shots for the Mount in the opening 45 minutes.

Second Half
Buffalo State recorded 11 more shots in the second half, outshooting the Mount 11-3 after halftime.

Freddy Fikiri added an insurance goal for the Bengals in the 51st minute, finishing off a feed from Pencic at the 50:50 mark of the contest.

Buffalo State took the only corner kick of the half.

Doyle recorded two of the three shots in the half for the Mount with David Giraldo adding the other attempt.

Decker finished the second half with seven more saves.

For Mount Saint Mary
Doyle recorded three shots in the game, including two on goal.

Antisell and Giraldo provided the other shots in the contest for the Mount.

Decker recorded his first double-digit save performance for the Knights, stopping 13 shots.

For Buffalo State
Pencic finished with a goal and an assist.

Firiki scored his first goal of the season for the Bengals.

Max Shoemaker closed the shutout victory with a pair of saves.

Match Statistics
Buffalo State finished with a 25-5 advantage in overall shots and a 15-2 edge in shots on target.

Corner kicks went to the Bengals 3-1.

Fouls in the match went against the Bengals 6-3.

The Mount will travel to SUNY Poly for a non-conference game on Wednesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
