Vassar Women’s Tennis Rounds Out Action

POUGHKEEPSIE – It was another outstanding day of tennis on Josselyn Courts as the Vassar College women’s tennis team concluded action at the 2021 Vassar Scramble. The event, which featured New York University and SUNY New Paltz, saw one round of singles and two rounds of doubles in the final day of action.

Singles action for the Brewers four victories, paced by rookie Macey Dowd as she bested New Paltz’s Trinity Chow by a 6-3, 6-2 margin. Senior Cara Kizilbash posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over NYU’s Pearl Nguyen, while sophomore Sofie Shen was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over New Paltz’s Alex Chimenti. Senior Nicole Pihlstrom rounded out the victories for the Brewers, besting NYU’s Jamaica Buyse, 0-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Senior Melina Stavropoulos shouldered a tough 6-2, 6-2 loss to NYU’s Jimena Menendez, while rookie Elyse Duley fell to NYU’s Carol Plakk, 6-0, 6-0.

Following the conclusion of singles, the second round of doubles got underway with Shen and Stavropoulos taking on New Paltz’s Chow and Bartek with an 8-5 win. Kizilbash and Duley combined for an 8-6 win against NYU’S Nguyen and Menendez. The Brewers pair of Dowd and Pihlstrom shouldered a tough 8-2 loss to NYU’s Baxter and Siegler.

Third round doubles saw things mixed up once again as Shen and Kizilbash paired for an 8-2 win against New Paltz’s Van Der Veen and Donovan. Dowd and Stavropoulos then bested NYU’s Muvva and Su by an 8-2 margin, while Duley and Pihlstrom recorded an 8-1 victory over NYU’s Buyse and Huang to conclude the day’s action for Vassar.
