Getting a First Look at Malcolm X Park Plans

POUGHKEEPSIE – City officials, Scenic Hudson and New City Park representatives, and others joined community members recently to discuss the future of Malcolm X Park on Mansion Street.

The speakers included Mayor Rob Rolison, Rose Harvey, Senior Fellow for Parks and Open Space at the Regional Plan Association, Minister Stacey Bottoms of Beulah Baptist Church, and Dr. Ed Pittman, who was instrumental in getting the park named after Malcolm X in the late 1970s. Pittman, a lifelong city resident, served as a dean at Vassar College for more than 30 years.

After hearing these presentations, the public had a chance to go to feedback stations to offer comments on the plans which include new basketball courts, bleachers, and a playground as well as the addition of a Malcolm X mural and gardens.
