Mount Blue Knights, Valiants Play to Scoreless Draw

NEWBURGH – Meeting for the first time since the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship Semifinal round, the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Soccer team and Manhattanville played to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon in Newburgh. Caroline Brucato and Christina Kakavas combined on the shutout in goal.

The draw on Saturday moves Mount Saint Mary to 2-2-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in league play, while Manhattanville drops to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference action.

First Half
The Valiants got off the first two shots in the opening five minutes of play with Natalie Aracena getting denied by Brucato each time.

The Mount’s first attempt of the game came just over seven minutes in when KellyAnn Platt missed wide.

Brittany Bornstad put a shot on target in the 14th minute but was denied by Alexa Pyatsky.
Brucato finished the opening period with a trio of saves.

The Bornstad shot on frame was the only attempt on target for the Knights in the opening stanza.

Shots in the first 45 minutes were even at 3-3.

Second Half
Mount Saint Mary outshot Manhattanville 6-3 in the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Maggie Zecca had a shot saved in the later stages of the second half with Platt missing wide with just under two minutes left in regulation time.

Brucato made two more saves after halftime for the Mount.

Overtime Periods
Manhattanville outshot the Mount 2-1 in the extra periods, with all three shots coming in the second overtime.

The Mount’s best chance came when Julia Accetura missed to the near side coming off a corner kick in the 105th minute.

Manhattanville nearly ended things when Ashley Hayes missed just outside the far post in the 107th minute.

Kakavas made her only save of the game in the second overtime period.

For The Knights
Eight different players recorded a shot for the Mount, with Platt and Zecca each finishing with two attempts.

Bornstad, Ashlee Peters and Zecca all finished with a shot on goal.
Brucato posted five stops and Kakavas stopped a single shot for the Knights.

For The Valiants
Aracena led all players with three shots in the game.

Dori Grasso and Aracena each finished with two shots on goal.

Pyatsky made a trio of saves in goal.

Match Statistics
Mount Saint Mary finished with a 10-8 advantage in overall shots, while Manhattanville held the edge in shots on goal 6-3.

Corner kicks in the contest went to the Mount 5-4.

Fouls in the match were whistled 19-14 against the Knights.

The Knights travel to league rival Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off with the Gryphons.
