School Threat Has Been Investigated by Police

POUGHKEEPSIE – A threat circulating on social media saying “Don’t come to school Sept. 22” turned out to be something of a hoax Wednesday at Poughkeepsie High School. Police traced the post to an area in the State of Florida.

According to Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser, the post on social media had the threat scrawled on an unidentifiable bathroom stall. Rosser said “The PCSD along with the Poughkeepsie Police Department learned of this social media post circulating among our student population this morning (September 22) and immediately collaborated to determine validity.”

The Superintendent indicated that the Poughkeepsie police determined that nothing in the post indicated that members of the PCSD community should be alarmed.

City of Poughkeepsie police detectives traced the origin of the post to a Florida community and have been in contact with authorities there. Rosser said that the Florida officials have also investigated the threat which caused alarm there and the Florida officials determined the threat to be “non-credible”.
