Army Soccer Drops Result Against Navy

CHESTER, PA. – The Army Black Knights fell to the Navy Midshipmen, 3-0, in the Army-Navy Cup X on Saturday night for their first loss in the series since 2014.

Navy’s Jacob Williams netted a hat-trick to propel the Mids to the win. Williams scored a brace in a two-minute span. He opened the scoring with a solo effort in the 14th minute with a low strike to the far post. Two minutes later, Williams pressured the Army backline into a turnover and his shot just outside the box beat the keeper into the top corner for a 2-0 lead.

Army almost scored on its first shot attempt of the game in the 19th minute with John Poncy hit a low drive to the far post which was saved and caused a corner. The en suing corner created a fury of chances for the Black Knights but was unable to find the back of the net. Army’s next best scoring chance came In the 29th minute when Cooper Warren’s header was saved.

Three minutes into the second half, the Black Knights had another decent scoring opportunity denied when Andrew Guerra had his shot in the box heading to goal blocked by a Navy defender. Williams completed his hat-trick in the 82nd minute with a low strike inside the box to the far post.

“Congrats to Navy on the win tonight. They finished their chances well.

“It’s another opportunity for us to learn and grow. They scored all three goals without completing a pass to finish the play. Second balls, 1v1 defending anf clearances are the details that games are won and lost in.

“I am excited about this group and their fight. We never quit and the same will be said as we continue to try and solidify our spot in the Patriot League Tournament,” said Army Coach Brian Plotkin
