WEST POINT – Kenneth Barrett opened the 2021-22 Indoor Track Season in strong fashion on Saturday, setting a new school record in the Indoor Mile at the Crowell Open hosted by Army West Point.
Barrett, who is coming off All-Skyline Conference and All-ECAC selections during the Cross Country season, opened the Indoor season with a time of 4:38.81 in the Mile on Saturday. He topped the previous mark of 4:40.16 set on February 14, 2016 on his way to a sixth place overall finish it the event.
Andrew Maloy also picked up a top-10 finish for the Knights on Saturday, claiming ninth in the Weight Throw with a mark of 10.68 meters. Maloy added a 19th place finish for the Mount in the Shot Put with a heave of 8.69 meters.
Jesse Hull opened his senior season for the Mount with a mark of 9.44 meters in the Shot Put, pacing the Knights with a 17th place finish.
Michael Gillespie and Jordan Wallace began their careers for the Mount with strong showings in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes. Wallace posted a time of 7.62 seconds with Gillespie following closely with a time of 7.65 seconds in the 60-meter dash. In the 200-meter race, Gillespie recorded a time of 24.98 seconds with Wallace following in 25.18 seconds.
Mount Saint Mary will be off until the end of January when it heads to the Utica Blue and Orange Invitational on January 29.
