Legislator Luján Sworn in For His Second Term

NEWBURGH – On Sunday, January 2, 2022, community members gathered outside of the Newburgh Heritage Center at 123 Grand Street for the Inauguration ceremony of Orange County Legislator Kevindaryán Luján.

The ceremony began with the changing of the colors with the ROTC and the national anthem was sung by Christine Shoshannah, a local Newburgh artist. Speakers included, former Ward 2 City of Newburgh Councilwoman Genie Abrahams conducted the opening prayer, City of Newburgh Historian Mary McTamaney discussion the historical significance of
the Old Court house. Also, amongst the speakers, was community activist Steven Majano, Mayor Torrance Harvey and Monica Luján. The oath of office was administered by City of Newburgh Court Judge Joanne Matthews Forbes.

Luján said, “While many often talk about the struggles our great city faces, few of the sound bites touch on our resilience as a community, the love and unity we continuously show in the face of adversity. You, the unspoken heroes of our city, you, the community members I am so proud to represent… you are what makes me most proud to be from Newburgh. You show up each day, trying to make our city a better place for all. With your voices and support we have been able to accomplish a many great things and I am eternally grateful for your support.”
