Siena Overcomes First Half Deficit, For the Win

POUGHKEEPSIE – Marist men’s basketball dropped its second consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Friday night to the Siena Saints, 67-60. The Red Foxes move to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in MAAC play. The Saints improve to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Siena took a quick 4-0 lead forcing a Marist timeout. The Red Foxes responded with a 14-0 run while holding Siena to a scoring drought that lasted over four minutes. The Red Foxes extended their outburst pushing it to a 21-5 run that lasted for over eight minutes.

The Red Foxes had a scoring drought of their own for the ensuing three minutes as the Saints ended the half on a 6-0 run. The mini Siena run cut its deficit to 14, 38-24 in Marist’s favor at the half.

Marist shot 52% (14-for-27) from the field, Siena shot 32%(10-for-31) from the field. The Red Foxes shot 5-for-8 (63%) from three, Siena shot 1-for-6 from deep in the first half.

Midway through the second, Siena fought to cut Marist’s lead with a near nine minute 21-5 run. The Red Foxes turned the ball over five times in Siena’s scoring run.

Siena closed the game on a 22-8 run in the final seven minutes of action.
