BOSTON, MA – Graduate student Hayley Collins broke 17 minutes for the 5-kilometer distance for the first time in her long and storied career, placing 10th overall in 16:57.43 on Friday afternoon at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational at Boston University, leading the Marist women’s track team on a strong day of performances at the Track and Tennis Center.
Collins bolted out to a fast start, leading in the early stages of the race. Her 3-kilometer split of 10:02.63 was also a personal-best mark. Her finish time earned her a spot at the ECAC Championships, to be held right back at BU on March 4.

Collins’ stellar run capped an afternoon of solid highlights for the Red Foxes:

-In the mile run, freshmen Adele Alexander (5:08.00) and Hannah Belleville (5:10.34) raced to personal-best times.

-In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Tori Mariano (10:10.21) notched a career-best time.
