Marist Women’s Basketball Falls Short to Rider

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist women’s basketball team fell short against Rider on Saturday night in McCann Arena by a final score of 60-50. With the loss the Red Foxes record moves to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Rider improves to 6-14 overall and 4-7 in MAAC play.

Marist jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but Rider answered with a 6-0 run to take a 6-4 lead with 4:29 left in the first quarter.

A full court pass from Anabel Ellison to Julianna Bonilla ended a 4+ minute scoring drought for the Red Foxes.

Lenaejha Evans had six first quarter points to give Rider a 16-14 lead after ten minutes.
Anna Ekerstedt knocked down a triple with 4:59 left in the second quarter to give Rider their biggest lead of the first half, 27-19.

Despite a 4:59 scoring drought for Rider, they held onto a 27-22 halftime lead.

Kendall Krick started the second half with an and-one floater to make it a two-point game.
An 8-0 Marist run sparked by Trinasia Kennedy midway through the third quarter gave Marist the lead back for the first time in the second half.

After a scoreless last 3:26 of the third quarter, Rider went into the fourth with a 40-35 lead.

Samantha Bailey drained a corner three to give the Red Foxes the lead and momentum early in the fourth quarter.

Rider came out of the under-five timeout on fire and never looked back, taking down Marist by a final score of 60-50.

The Red Foxes travel to Western New York on Thursday to take on Niagara and then Canisius on Saturday.
