Vassar Brewers Take Second at Home Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar women’s track & field scored 158.33 points to place second overall. Stevens won the meet with 178.33 points.

Vassar opened the day by winning the men’s 4×100 meter relay with a time of 44.77. The group comprised senior Ryan Mazurkiewicz, junior Quilan Tucker, and sophomores Darnell Worley and Sam Lytel.

The Brewer men then swept the first three spots in the 1,500-meter race, with senior Jack Casalino winning a program-record 3:57.83. Senior Gibran Mourani crushed his personal record time to claim second at 3:59.53. Sophomore Aidan Mayer took third with a personal best of 4:00.38.

The Vassar women also took the first three places in the 1,500, and first-year Sophia Henderson dropped ten seconds off her personal best and was first at 5:02.94. First-year Noni Pattington recorded a personal best time at 5:04.14 for second, and senior Sasha Allison was third at 5:04.51.

First-year Elinor Kops broke her program record in the 100-meter hurdles, running a 16.23. Freshman Faye Stevens placed sixth with a time of 17.22.

In the men’s 400-meter, Lytel crossed the line at 53.72 for third overall. Sophomore Jordan Norman ran a 1:04.09 for fourth in the 400, while junior Ava Waters was fifth at 1:04.32.

Mazurkiewicz took ninth in the 100-meters and ran a time of 11.83. The Vassar women loaded the field with six runners finishing in the top ten. Sophomore Ava Novak ran a personal best of 12.94 for third place. First-year Traci Francis placed fourth at 13.06, while junior Malinda Smith was fifth at 13.33.

Sophomore Simon LaClair led the Vassar men with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter with a time of 1:59.33, and sophomore Tim Jacques ran a personal record of 1:59.33.

Mayer ran a 2:01.90 to take seventh overall. Senior Sarah Gillooly kept her winning streak alive, taking first overall in the 800 with a career-best 2:20.78.

Sophomore Nora Jensen was the top Vassar finisher in the women’s 200 and took sixth overall with a time of 28.65.

The Vassar men went 1-2-3 in the 5k, and junior Miles Takiguchi ran a personal record of 14:45.83 to win the event. Senior Johnathan Dean was second at 15:12.25, while first-year John Hurly placed third at 15:17.73. First-year Sophie Farr placed second on the women’s side. She ran a 19:46.97 for a personal record.

The last track event was the 4×400 relay, and the men’s group of Lytel, Quinlan, Worley, and Mazurkiewicz placed third at 3:31.51. On the women’s side, Waters, Novak, Norman, and Gillooly placed second at 4:15.73.

Stevens placed fourth in the javelin after throwing 26.28 meters in the field events. Sophomore Jackie Morrison competed in the javelin for the first time this season and was fifth at 24.09 meters. Sophomore Michael Came set a personal record to win the men’s javelin with 47.73 meters.

At the women’s long jump, first-year Rhys Miller set a personal best at 4.95 meters for fourth place, and Novak was fifth with 4.94 meters. Frank placed third in the men’s pole vault by clearing 3.95 meters. Frank then placed third in the shot put by throwing 10.05 meters, while first-year Max Bergman was sixth at 7.70 meters.

Kops took fourth in the women’s shotput after tallying a throw of 8.15 meters. First-year Soleil Yuong placed fifth at 7.93 meters.

Worley earned a mark of 12.64 meters to finish second in the men’s triple jump, while Miller was the only competitor on the women’s side and jumped 10.20 meters.
