Brewers Compete at RPI Capital District Classic

TROY – The Vassar women’s track & field team had one final tune-up before the Liberty League Championships. The Brewers were well represented in the RPI Capital District Classic, which comprised 12 teams.

The Brewers opened the meet with the 4×100 relay with Traci Francis, Ava Novak, Lola Perez-Fry, and Malinda Smith taking second with 50.89. Then in the 1,500-meter race, first-year Noni Pattington ran a 5:11.98 for fifth overall.

In the 100-hurdles, first-year Faye Stevens finished at 17.38 for fourth, while sophomore Nora Jensen was fifth at 17.45. Junior Ava Waters was fifth in the 400-meter dash after running 1:04.01. Francis sneaked in a personal best 12.97 in the 100-meters to take second, while Perez-Fry ran a 13.15 for fifth place.

Sophomore Laura Wong placed fourth in the 400-hurdles with a time of 1:14.71. Perez was the top Brewer in the 200-meter race and ran a 27.22 for seventh place. Sophomore Clara Wiesler led the 3,000-meter race with a fourth-place finish after running 11:25.61. Senior Keara Ginell was sixth at 11:30.08.

Novak recorded a solid personal record of 5.20 meters in the long jump to take fifth overall on the field. First-year Rhys Miller also tallied a personal-best mark of 5.05 meters to earn seventh place. Miller went on to go sixth in the triple jump at 10.12 meters. First-year Faye Stevens earned a seventh-place finish in the javelin with 24.79 meters, while Soleil Yuong was 11th at 21.49 meters.

Vassar next hosts the Liberty League Championship on May 6-7.
