CANTON – The Vassar baseball team fell in both games to St. Lawrence in Saturday’s crossover series doubleheader. The Brewers dropped the first game 5-20 before losing 4-5 on a walk-off in the second game.
After three scoreless innings, St. Lawrence’s Chris Watson hit a two-run home run to left field to take the lead. Junior Ezra Caspi answered with a two-score home run in the fourth to tie 2-2. Watson then singled in a runner to give the Saints the lead. St. Lawrence then scored eight runs in the sixth and another eight in the seventh to take a commanding 4-19 lead.
Junior Andrew Kanellis hit the tenth home run of his career to set a Vassar program record in the eighth, and then the Brewers tacked on one more run in the ninth when Birch Herring Jackson doubled in a score.
In the second game, Vassar took a 4-1 lead in the fourth after senior Ty Langford scored on a wild pitch. Nick Butler from St. Lawrence hit a home run in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2, and the Saint then tied the game up in the sixth inning. A seventh-inning walk-off single from Desjardins gave St. Lawrence the sweep.
