Vassar Finishes Fifth at League Championships

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar women’s track & field team concluded day two of the Liberty League Championships on Saturday and finished fifth out of eight teams with 60 points. Rochester won the team title with 230 points, while Ithaca was the runner-up at 216 points.

The 4×100 relay of Malinda Smith, Ava Novak, Lola Perez-Fry, and Traci Francis kicked off the day with a season-best 49.76 to place fourth overall. In the 1,500-meter race, Sophia Henderson and Clara Wiesler went 10th and 11th, respectively. Henderson crossed at 5:03.45, while Wiesler ran a 5:08.87.

First-year Elinor Kops broke the 100-meter hurdles program record again in the finals, running a 15.69 for fifth overall. In the 100-meter finals, first-year Traci Francis ran a personal best of 12.47 to place third, while sophomore Ava Novak also ran a career-best time of 12.50 to earn fourth overall.

Senior Sarah Gillooly scored in the 800-meter finals with a fourth-place finish and a time of 2:18.24. First-year Faye Stevens ran a personal best 1:06.85 in the 400-meter hurdles finals to take fourth overall. Novak went fourth in the 200-meter finals after running a 25.64.

Vassar had two runners in the top eight of the 5,000-meter race. Senior Sasha Allison ran an 18:15.15 to place seventh, while first-year Noni Pattington ran a personal record time of 18:18.76 to finish eighth overall.

The 4×400 relay of Novak, Stevens, Ava Waters and Gillooly earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 4:14.03.

Rhys Miller took sixth in the triple jump on the field with a season-best 10.45 meters.
Vassar next competes at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on Mon., May 16, at 4 p.m.
