POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and the Dutchess County Division of Veterans Services have announced the launch of the new Veterans Microgrant Program. The Veterans Microgrant Program offers one-time grants to local non-profit veteran’s organizations and municipalities to enhance activities and programming that address veterans needs or recognize the service of local veterans. Grant applications are now available online at dutchessny.gov/veterans and will be accepted on a rolling basis while funds are available.
Funding will be available in grant awards up to $15,000 per organization or municipality. It can be used for purchases or needs, including equipment, resources, or other one-time expenses to help enhance program offerings, as well as make the program more accessible for veterans.
County Executive Molinaro said, “Dutchess County remains fervent in our dedication to preserving the legacy and enhancing the lives of the brave men and women who have protected our county and our nation. The County’s new Veterans Microgrant Program will ensure our local communities and organizations can continue to offer the vital services and programs on which many local heroes rely and enjoy. I encourage local eligible organizations to apply for our new Veterans Micogrants to help enhance the quality of life for those who sacrificed so much for our country.”
Nonprofit organizations or municipalities that currently offer specific programs to and for the benefit of veterans of the United States Armed Forces in Dutchess County are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to entities that do not already contract with Dutchess County to provide services to veterans.
Examples of possible funding awards include:
* Enhancement, expansion of a program or service currently offered to veterans
* New programming for veterans provided by an agency that already provides services to veterans.
* Purchase plaques, banners, or monuments to honor veterans.
* Expenses associated with an event (picnic, holiday party) to honor veterans
* General capital infrastructure to facilities, including physical structures (roof, windows, doors, etc.) HVAC, plumbing, electrical, security, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The structure’s primary purpose must be for veterans’ services.
Funding for the new Veterans Microgrant Program was unanimously approved by the Dutchess County Legislature in early June.
Majority Leader of the Dutchess County Legislature Will Truitt said, “I believe the Veterans Microgrant will have a positive impact on veterans and their wellbeing throughout Dutchess County. I am proud to be a Legislator in a County that prioritizes the needs of veterans. We owe an immense amount of gratitude to the men and women who have served our great nation and this microgrant reflects that appreciation.”
Only one application per organization will be accepted. Funding should be utilized within one year of award. The complete list of Veterans MicroGrant Instructions and Guidance is available online.
Dutchess County Division of Veterans Services Adam Roche said, “I am thrilled that the County has created this program to help our veterans. Every day we put focus on giving veterans the help and resources they have earned for their service time. This grant is another great step in bettering the lives of our local heroes.”
